Mrs. George E. Welker died at her home near Hopewell, 5 miles south of Wentzville, Saturday night, August 14, 1943, just after she had retired. She had been in failing health for a year, due to a heart ailment, but was able to attend to her household duties.
The deceased was formerly Miss Clara A. Schemmer, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Schemmer, born July 28, 1892. She was confirmed at the Lutheran church in New Melle and held her membership there.
Besides her husband, George E. Welker, she is survived by three sons, Leonard, Howard, and Robert, who reside at home, and two brothers, George Schemmer of Wentzville and John Schemmer of New Melle.
The body was brought to the Pitman funeral home in Wentzville and at 2:00 p. m., Tuesday, funeral services were conducted at the Lutheran church in New Melle, by the pastor Rev. Edgar Wein. Interment was made in Linn Cemetery.
