In loving memory of a life well lived, we honor
Joan M. Lee Olive. Joan was a resident of Independence, CA for approximately 25 years with short residences in Tehachapi, CA, Oregon, and Reno, NV. She passed away peacefully on June 12, 2016. She was 90 years old.
She was born on July 6, 1925 in Cheshire, England to Charles and Ethel Tovell. She fell in love with a U.S. Army man, John G. Lee, who she married in 1944 in England. He then brought her to the US in 1946 aboard the Queen Mary. They settled in Spanish Fork, Utah and through their 41 years together they managed boys ranches in California and Utah. In 1968 they moved to the beautiful Owens Valley where they settled and enjoyed a wonderful life together and raised four children. Joan worked at Mairs Market for over 10 years, which she enjoyed very much. Her husband passed in 1985. In 1988 she met and married Leonard Olive, they were married 26 years.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband, John G. Lee; son, John W. Lee; her second husband, Leonard Olive; her brother, Clive Tovell; sister, Barbara Tovell; sister, Mary Waggle. She is survived by her three children, Jeff Lee, Jody Scott and husband John, Jill Gonzales and husband Juan; stepson, Len Olive and wife Lenny; 10 grandchildren and 6 Great grandchildren; her brother, Bill Tovell and wife Nenita and sister Sandra and husband Jerry Nordyke and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives who all remember her in their own special ways. She truly was a very special person.
Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the Independence Cemetery with a gathering afterwards at the Methodist Hall. In lieu of flowers it is requested donations be made to the IVFD (Independence Volunteer Fire Department), P.O. Box Draw B, Independence CA 93526.
