    1. [S4] Obituary.
CARY — Ann Tupper died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on June 22, 2013. She was born August 7, 1928 in Peru, IN to Roger and Edith (Nelp) Williams. She had one older sister, Ruth Nelp Williams.
Ann graduated from Peru High School, spent two years at Franklin College and graduated with a degree in education from Indiana University. She later earned a Master’s Degree from Ball State University. She married Kenneth F. Tupper in 1952 and enjoyed a 45- year marriage until his death in 1998. Ken’s job took them to Kokomo, IN where Ann lived until 2010 when she moved to the Glenaire Community in Cary, NC.
Ann is survived by her two children; Nancy Stokes (Bill) of Apex, NC and Eric Tupper (Rebecca) of Pittsburgh, PA. She was devoted to her five grandchildren who brought her joy and pride: Molly Chelovich (Colin), Lara Sedor (Barry), Andy Mayhew, Sarah Stokes and Gretchen Stokes.
Ann was the consummate teacher matching discipline with encouragement. The majority of her 30-year career was spent teaching kindergarten at Elwood Haynes School in Kokomo. But Ann’s teaching did not stop in the classroom. Her children and grandchildren benefitted from her life-skills lessons from the kitchen to the sewing machine and her moral lessons about everything good and right. Ann’s teaching spirit extends beyond life with her donation of her body as an anatomical gift to Duke Uni- versity Medical Center. Ann was a devoted friend. She nurtured life-long friend- ships from high school and college but also enjoyed new, meaningful friendships throughout her life. Ann welcomed all into her home all including Ken’s international business associates. She was the ultimate organizer; lists, order and timeliness were trademarks. “Patience, love and understanding” were Ann’s guidewords and she readily shared these in many venues including the sororities of Tri Kappa, Pi Beta Phi and PEO. Ann also enjoyed bridge, travel, needlework, gardening, and music.
Celebrations of Ann’s life and in witness to the resurrec- tion will be held on Thursday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at in the auditorium at Glenaire, 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary, NC and on Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 219 Mulberry Street, Kokomo, IN. In lieu of flowers, contribu- tions may be made to Bona Vista School, (for children and adults of all abilities) PO Box 2490, 1220 East Laguna, Kokomo IN 46904 or by visiting their website at bonavista.org. Contributions may also be made to the Kirk of Kildaire, Presbyterian, 200 High Meadow Drive, Cary, NC 27511.
