Arnold Freed "Arnie" Anderson, 87, of Rockford died at 6:10 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, in Alpine Fireside Health Center. Born Jan. 8, 1921, in Rockford, the son of Hjalmar Theodore and Naomi Caroline (Freed) Anderson. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, receiving the Purple Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. Married Jeanette I. Griffis on Aug. 24, 1946, in Milwaukee; she died Sept. 29, 1997. Employed by National Lock Co., retiring in 1981. Formerly employed at Hilander Foods. Member of Salem Lutheran Church. Lifelong Cubs fan. He was an avid walker. Arnold and Jeanette kept a meticulous home and enjoyed their family.
Survivors include children, Russell (Sherynn) Anderson of Minocqua, Wis., Barbara (David) Filarski of Peoria and Roger L. Anderson of Rockford; grandchildren, Troy Anderson, Shannon (Greg) Voborski, Emily, Molly and Mark Anderson, Adam and Abby Filarski; and two nieces.
Predeceased by parents; brother, Albert Anderson; and sister, Dorothy Nelson.
Service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with the Rev. William Dahlberg officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
