ANWYL ROBERT S. 61, beloved husband of 28 years to Connie, beloved friend to many dozens, and beloved teacher to tens of thousands to Miami-Dade College students over two generations, known to many of these as "Uncle Bob” died Monday May 31 at Jackson Memorial Hospital after a 3 year battle with cancer.
A native of Red Wing, MN Bob graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High, then went on to earn two degrees and additional doctoral studies in Sociology and other social sciences at Florida State University. Bob’s career as a professor at Miami-Dade’s North Campus spanned 36 years. His commitment to teaching and his students was absolute. He was awarded the prestigious Peter Masiko Jr Endowed Teaching Chair in recognition of his teaching excellence. Bob also worked as a research assistant at the Comprehensive Drug Research Center in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Miami Medical School where he co-authored articles on the incidence of HIV breast and prostate cancer among various populations.
