      HARVIE, Richard Hudson “Dick” – March 21, 1925 January 25, 2019.
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Richard Hudson “Dick” Harvie, 93, of Sheffield Mills, on Friday, January 25th, surrounded by loved ones at home. Born in Hantsport, he was a son of the late Leland and Zella (Hudson) Harvie.
Richard joined the RCAF in 1943 and served in Dunville, Ont. After his release in 1944, he joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment in 1945, training in Yarmouth and Aldershot. Following his discharge from the military in 1946, he attended Agricultural College in Truro, graduating in 1948 with his Farming Degree. He started his farming career in 1950 with two work horses, a cow and a plow. He was known for having the best corn. Richard was also active in the Royal Canadian Legion – Habitant Branch No. 73, Canning, serving in many capacities, including President and a member of the Color Party for many years. He had also held the position of Returning Officer for many provincial elections. He enjoyed playing cribbage, singing, cookies, gardening and hunting. He married Auleen Morine in 1948 and together they travelled to many destinations, including Cuba and Portugal. They were both avid skaters and he enjoyed swimming at Long Beach.
He was predeceased by his wife, Auleen; sister, Margaret Forsyth and brother, John Harvie. A private family burial will take place at a later date in Jawbone Corner Cemetery.
