FORRESTON —
George Palmer, 85, of Forreston, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 1997 in Freeport Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 30, 1912 in Rockvale Twp., Ogle County, Ill., son of Martin and Alice Steffa Palmer. Married Helen L. Hardesty on Nov. 11, 1939 in Nashua, Iowa. He farmed in the Leaf River and Mount Morris areas until retiring. He also drove a bus for Leaf River School District 270 for 22 years, and was custodian and general manager of the Bertolet Memorial Building for 17 years.
Survivors include wife, Helen; sons, G. LaVerne (Sandra) of Tucson, Ariz., and Jason R. Palmer of St. Charles. Daughters Gail (James) Butler of Freeport, and Sharon (John) Redler of El Mirage, Ariz.; brother, Daniel Palmer of Naples, Fla.; sisters, Edna Davis and Florence Lestikow, both of Mount Morris; grandson, Dr. Daniel Rowland, Scott Rowland, Kevin Butler, Stephen Butler, Jason Palmer, Shaun Palmer, Jordan Palmer, Stuart Palmer, and Andrew Palmer; great-grandsons, MaKenzie and Chandler Rowland; and great-granddaughter, Mikayla Rowland.
Predeceased by three brothers.
Services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 203 Third Ave., Forreston, with the Rev. Carlton K. Easley, pastor of North Grove Christian Church, officiating. Burial in Silver Creek Cemetery, Leaf River. Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in the funeral home. Memorials to Forreston Ambulance District or charity of choice.
