Mrs. Marion Beach, 84, Dies Mrs. Marion W. Skinner Beach, 84, of Belvedere, educator and former college president, died last night at a local hospital after a short illness. She resided at 23 Cove Road. A native of Lawrence, Mass., Mrs. Beach was a graduate of Radcliffe College and received an M.A. from Columbia University. She had also pursued graduate studies at Stanford University, Middleburg College, and Marburg University, Germany.
In 1927 Mrs. Beach founded Weylister Secretarial College in Milford, Conn., and was its president until it became a college of the University of Bridgeport in 1948. She then served as director of the college and advisor to the president of the university. Before founding Weylister College, Mrs. Beach was director of the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston and was professor of English and dean of women at University of Dubuque, Iowa. During World War II she was advisor to the personnel director of Chance-Vought Aircraft Corp., Bridgeport, Conn. Her father, George Selby Junkins was mayor of Lawrence, Mass. She was married in 1903 to Prof. Macy M. Skinner of Harvard. In 1933 she was married to George W. Beach, manufacturer and civic leader of Minneapolis, Minn., and Dubuque, Iowa. Mrs. Beach was editor of the school edition of Dorothy Canfield Fisher’s “The Bent Twig” and author of articles on English, and on school and college administration. She was a member of the American Assn. of University Women, the National League of American Penwomen, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Gamma Phi Beta. She leaves two sons, Dr. Selby Skinner of Baltimore, Md., and Carlton Skinner of Belvedere and five grandchildren. Burial will be in Lawrence, Mass.

Mrs. Marion Beach, Educator, Dies at 84 Mrs. Marion W. Skinner Beach of Belvedere, retired educator and former college president, died Tuesday in Marin General Hospital after a brief illness. She was 84, Services and burial will be in Lawrence, Mass., her birthplace. Mrs. Beach was founder of the Weylister Secretarial College in Milford, Conn., and served as its president from 1927 to 1948, when it became a college of the University of Bridgeport. , She then served as director of the college and advisor to the president of the university. She was the author of numerous articles on school and college administration. Earlier in her career she was director of the Katharine Gibbs School in Boston and professor of English and dean of women at the University of Dubuque in Iowa. During World War II, she was advisor to the personnel director of the Chance-Vought Aircraft Corp. in Bridgeport, Conn. Mrs. Beach was a graduate of Radcliffe College was received a masters degree at Columbia University. She was married In 1903 to Macy M. Skinner, a Harvard University professor; and in 1933 to George W. Beach, a manufacturer and civic leader of Minneapolis and Dubuque. Her father, George Selby Jenkins, was a mayor of Lawrence, Mass. She is survived by two sons, Carlton Skinner of Belvedere and Dr. Selby Skinner of Baltimore, Md., and five grandchildren.

Miss Marian W. Junkins, Radcliffe ’03 and Dr. Macy M. Skinner, Harvard ’94, instructor in German at Harvard University, were married at Appleton Chapel, Saturday, by Professor Max L. Kellner, of the Episcopal Theological School. The bride was given away by her mother, Mrs. Josephine M. Junkins of Lawrence. Miss Helen M. Junkins, Boston University Medical School, ’03, was the bridesmaid, and Vernon V. Skinner, Harvard Law School, ’97, the best man. The ushers were Waldo Kendall, Harvard, ’98, a former instructor at Harvard, and Thomas F. Currier, Harvard, ’94, of Harvard library. Mrs. Fay Davis, organist of the North Avenue Congregational Church, contributed the music. Miss Irwin, dean of Radcliffe, a number of Harvard professors and their wives, many of the members of the Radcliffe class of 1903, and the families of the bride and groom witnessed the ceremony.

M. Skinner of Park Road, Forest Hills.
