      Seattle, Sept. 30, 1945 – Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Sumner MCDUFFEE, who died last Friday after a long and colorful life in the west and Hawaii, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in St. Mark’s Chapel, Dr. John McLauchlan will officiate.
       Mrs. MCDUFFEE, 89, widow of the publisher of an early Seattle magazine, “The Western Trail,” was born in Winooski, Vt. Married in 1878, the McDuffees crossed the United States on the first transcontinental railroad, the Union Pacific, to San Francisco. They sailed to Hawaii, where Mr. MCDUFFEE was in the service of King Kalakaua.
       The family resided alternately in Seattle and Portland after Mr. McDuffee’s participation in the Alaska Gold Rush. Mrs. MCDUFFEE long was prominent in the St. Mark’s Women’s Guild, and she and her husband were ardent workers for establishment of the new cathedral. Mr. MCDUFFEE died in 1928.
       Six of eight children survive. They are Robert J. of Twin Rocks, Ore; S. Vere, Portland; Leroy M., Salem Ore.; Clyde H.; Mrs. William J.C. KLAMM and Mrs. Lon W HARTMAN, Seattle.
