Abbie Louise (Lundgren) Brooks
"I trust in You, O Lord...My times are in Your hands." (Psalm 31)
Abbie Louise Brooks (nee Lundgren), 95, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on April 19, 2024. Born in Los Angeles, California, on March 30, 1929, Abbie was the daughter of Swen and Helen (Chilson) Lundgren.
After graduating from UCLA in 1952, Abbie served as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Women. Much later, she served as principal of Westminster Academy in Glendale, CA and Eagle Rock Christian School (1977-80). However, Abbie believed her lifework to be motherhood. As the busy mother of ten, Abbie proved to be loving, faithful, and hard-working, especially as the family moved fourteen times to homes in Southern California, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
Abbie’s life choices were defined, not by conformity or convenience, but by conviction - whether on family size, family Scripture reading and memorization, healthy eating, or promoting constitutional government through the John Birch Society. Abbie loved to read and give books as she sought to share truth, and the joy of reading, with her children and friends.
Abbie is lovingly remembered by her children: Kevin Brooks of Taylors, SC; Jaime (& Dan) Faucette of Sellersville, PA; Sheri (& Doug) Finkbeiner of Lancaster, PA; Colin (& Terri) Brooks of Spring Hill, FL; Lauren (& Paul) McIlroy of Horse Creek, CA; MaryBeth (& George) Lozano; Debbie Brooks of Keeau, Hawaii; Jonathan Brooks of Rock Hill, SC; Rebecca (& Jason) von Ehrenkrook of Avon, MA; David (& Susanne) Brooks of Bloomfield, MI; her 43 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. All ten of her children have been involved in teaching, either by vocation or in ministry.
Abbie was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Thomas Sheridan Brooks, who passed in 1998.
A Life Celebration service will take place on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Malvern Free Presbyterian Church, 80 Malin Rd., Malvern, PA, 19355, with a reception and luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Abbie’s memory to the Malvern Free Presbyterian Church or to Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC.
