      Darlene Messamer, 96, passed away at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, IA on June 23, 2014. She was born August 1, 1917 in Colfax Township, Dallas County, IA to Linn and Ona (Ludington) Royer. On May 21, 1941, she married the love of her life, Maurice "Tim" Messamer. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain family and friends.
       Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ruby Swartz, one brother, Merlin, and her husband of 61 years.
       She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Dave) Garoutte of Adel, IA, sons David K. Messamer of Mason City, IA, Kelly (Kathleen) Messamer of Grand Junction, CO, three grandsons, Keith, Kyle, Kevin (Trinity) Messamer all of Grand Junction, and numerous nieces and nephews.
       A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., August 2, 2014 at Panther Creek Church of the Brethren, Adel, IA of which she was a lifelong and faithful member. Memorials may be directed to her church or Spurgeon Manor.
