Kathleen L. Diddy Tomson, age 73, passed away the morning of Feb. 4, 2018, at Haven Hospice surrounded by her family. A remembrance service will be held from 11 am-1 pm Monday, Feb. 12, at the Ironwood Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be made in Kathleen Diddy Tomson’s name to Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Fla., and/or to the donor’s choice.
Kathleen, the daughter of Lovell and Lucille Diddy, was born July 31, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating from Meservey High School in 1962, she got her BS degree in medical technology at the University of Iowa. She started her career at the Iowa City VA Hospital, and continued at the National Disease Laboratories (Ames, Iowa), the Hines VA Hospital (Chicago, Ill.), the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (Pullman and Moscow) and finally to the Gainesville VA Hospital medical laboratories. She retired in 2010. She then focused her efforts on her children, grandchildren and parents, and was an active member of the West End Ladies Golf League.
Kathleen was united in marriage to Farol N. Tomson, DVM, on Aug. 23, 1969, at the Methodist Church in Meservey, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Farol Lovell Tomson, Ph.D., Elizabeth Ann Tomson Sergile, MD, and Eric John Tomson, M.Acc, JD. She has six grandchildren: Tessa Sergile, Sebastien Sergile, Ian Sergile, Samantha Tomson, Lauren Tomson and Jennifer Tomson.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Farol N., sons Farol L., of Germantown, Md.. and Eric, of Jacksonville, Fla,; a daughter, Elizabeth, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and a brother, Gary Diddy, of Arvada, Colo.; and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents.
