BROOKLYN, N.Y. –
Helen Crockett Kneeland passed away Saturday Aug. 27, 2005, at a Napa, Calif. convalescent center. She was born, Dec. 24, 1911, to Frank E. and Bertha Junkins Kneeland, the family moved to Searsport in 1915, where Helen attended grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse. She graduated from Searsport High School in 1927, attended the Gorham Normal School from 1930-1932 and received her nursing education at Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston.
She served honorably in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps during World War II. Following the war, Helen moved to Santa Monica, Calif., and was employed by the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Sawtelle, retiring in 1979. Traveling was a much enjoyed pastime; she explored much of Europe, Mexico and the United States. A resident of Napa since 1990, she took pleasure in her association with the Silver Spray Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her brother, Frank Kneeland, of Napa, Calif.; three nephews, Tom, Ken, and Paul Kneeland; as well as great-nephews and great-nieces.
