Auburn — On the day before Mother’s Day and her 75th wedding anniversary,
Madeline Ouellette Junkins 94, of Lisbon Falls, Maine, died peacefully at Clover Manor in Auburn with her family at her side.
Born in Lisbon, Maine, Maddy was 6th of 7 children in the family of Ernest and Anna Ouellette. Maddy grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. She attended Lisbon Schools an was an excellent student with dreams of becoming a nurse. She was well like by all and at the end of the war she caught the eye of a handsome young soldier, Albert "Buddy" Junkins, who would become the love of her life. Maddy worked in a small Cafe on Bates College campus in the early years, later went on to being a teacher’s aide at Lisbon Elementary and then to retire after 20 years with Geiger Brothers, publishers of the Farmer’s Almanac where she was a book binder.
Buddy became the first official Police Chief of the Lisbon Police Department and a much-beloved pillar of that community. Together they raised their 3 children- Margaret, James and Mary-in an old farmhouse in Lisbon Center. It was a happy home full of love and laughter through thick and thin.
After Buddy died in 2005, Maddy lived alone, but her door was always open, and someone always was dropping by for chats that could last for hours and brought Maddy great joy. Never was there a conversation that didn’t include mention of Buddy, nor did a day go by when she didn’t miss him.
Maddy was a rare soul, she never cursed and appreciated the simple pleasures of life: Friends, family, music and nature. She always attended community functions and especially concerts no matter the style of music. She mowed around the daisies on her lawn. Above all she loved Buddy and left to be with him on their 75th wedding anniversary.
