Mellen, Newspaper Executive, Dies ANDOVER — George Alfred Mellen, 71, newspaper and radio executive, died suddenly at his home. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Maude M. Brackett Mellen, and by two daughters, Mrs. Wallace A. Anderson of York, Pa., and Mrs. Burt W. Spiegel of West Haven, Ct. — Boston Sunday Advertiser, Jan. 27, 1946.

Mellen Dies in Andover Treasurer of Newspaper and Radio Firm ANDOVER, Jan. 26 (AP) — George Alfred Mellen, 71, treasurer of the Eagle Tribune Publishing Co., publishers of the Lawrence Daily Eagle and Evening Tribune, and treasurer of the Hilldreth & Rogers Co., owners and operators of radio station WLAW, died suddenly tonight at his home. Born in Lawrence, he attended local schools and was graduated from Brown University in 1898. He was deacon of the First Calvary Baptist Church and treasurer of the Merrimack River Baptist Association. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maude M. (Brackett) Mellen, and two daughters, Mrs. Wallace A. Anderson of York, Pa., and Mrs. Burg W. Spiegel of West Haven, Conn. — Boston Sunday Post, Jan. 27, 1946
