H. A. Kneeland Prominent Insurance Executive Was 78
NEWTON. Oct. 16 —
Herbert A. Kneeland of 326 Hammond st., Chestnut Hill, senior partner of the general insurance firm of John C. Paige & Company of Boston, died unexpectedly last night at the Osteopathic Hospital, Jamaica Plain.
Mr. Kneeland was born at Searsport, Me., May 26, 1873. He attended Kent’s Hill School. Maine. and came to Massachusetts in 1890. In 1891, he started with John C. Paige & Company and was admitted to the firm in 1912, becoming senior partner in 1933. He was a factor in the growth of the firm, it now having branches in Los Angeles, Portland and New York city. Mr. Kneeland was chairman of the board of John C. Paige & Company, Inc., of New York city. He was active in insurance circles, always seeking the betterment in conditions pertaining to the business. Among Mr. Kneeland’s clubs were the Algonquin. Beacon Society. Down Town Club. Highland Club of west Roxbury, Braeburn Country Club of West Newton and the weohannet Golf Club of Kennebunk Beach. Me. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Lodge. A. F. & M. of Boston.
Mr. Kneeland leaves his wife. Annie F., a daughter, Miss Viola B. of Newton, with the law firm of Kneeland and Splane, and a brother, Henry W. of West Roxburv. a partner in the John C. Paige Company. Funeral services will be held at the Waterman Chapel. Kenmore Sq., 495 Commonwealth av., at noon tomorrow.
