SKINNER, GERSON LISMAN –
Gerson Lisman Skinner of Boynton Beach, FL and Long Beach, NY, a former resident of Mount Vernon, died on January 12, 2002. He was born on June 20, 1922 to Fenwick F. and Charlotte Lisman Skinner. He was a graduate of A.B Davis High School. During World War II, Gerson served with the Ninth Division of the U.S Army and saw action in France, Belgium and Germany. In October 1944, he was severly wounded in combat and was awarded a Purple Heart. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1952.
Gerson married Kathleen McGrath on July 20, 1968 in New York. In 1993, he retired, after 27 years with the Human Resources Administration of the City of New York. He was an adult leader of Troop 1, B.S.A., in Pelham, NY. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Boynton Beach, FL. He enjoyed life and his quirky sense of humor and good heart brought happiness to others.
In addition to his wife, Gerson will be missed by son, Richard M. Skinner of Arlington, VA, and daughter, Elizabeth M. Skinner of Eastchester, NY; mother-in-law Elizabeth McGrath of Rockaway Beach, NY; nephews Ray Sawhill and Bruce Woodruff, both of Manhattan, and nieces, Joanne Griffen of St. Louis, MO and Christina Woodruff of Los Banos, CA. He was predeceased by his sisters, Janet Woodruff and Mitia Sawhill.
A funeral service was held on January 15, 2002 at Vanella’s Funeral Chapel in Oceanside, NY.
