    • According to “Biographical Review… Province of New Brunswick”, Samuel Skinner was born in Nova Scotia and during his life was a leading builder and contractor of St. John, N.B.

    1. [S4] Obituary.
      The death of Samuel SKINNER occurred Saturday night in his 86th year. He was about the house in his customary health on Saturday and took his meals as usual. About an hour after he he had taken his tea, he complained of feeling unwell and about ten o’clock he passed quietly to his rest. The deceased was the youngest child of a family of fifteen children, all of whom are now dead. His father, Charles SKINNER came to St. John during the progress of the Revolutionary war. He was born in Concord, Conn. and came to New Brunswick in 1778, landing in Saint John. He taught school at Maugerville for two years and then removed with his family to Cornwallis, N.S. It was there that Samuel Skinner was born. When a young man Samuel Skinner came to St. John and began business as a carriage manufacturer. For a number of years he carried on a successful business on Haymarket Square. About thirty years ago he retired to private life. Thirteen children were born to him, twelve of whom are now living – five sons and seven daughters. Four of his sons, Judge SKINNER, Chas. N. SKINNER, M.P., A. O. SKINNER and Fred SKINNER reside in St. John.
