Charlene MacDonald Shaw –
QUEENSBURY and OCALA, Fla | It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ms. Shaw, age 69. She succumbed to cancer after a valiant battle. She passed away in Ocala surrounded by her loving family. "Chuck", as so many of us affectionately called her, left us right before her 70th birthday. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.
She was born Feb. 3, 1946, to Georgette Denarie MacDonald and John Graham MacDonald in Mount Vernon, New York. Charlene and her husband, Ken, loved to travel and experience the world. Together they summered in Queensbury and spent the rest of the year in their home in Ocala, Florida.
She spent the majority of her life in the Glens Falls/Queensbury area. She graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1963. Immediately after high school, she started her family.
Charlene was adventurous in every aspect of her life. She was willing to try new things, meet new people and venture forth. Throughout her professional career she tried her hand at many different jobs, discovering new talents and friendships along the way. Some of her more memorable workplaces included the Glens Falls National Bank Mortgage Department, Queensbury Water Department, Suburban Propane, St. Mary’s Rectory and Realty USA.
She was an amazing cook. There was not a type of cuisine she could not master. Charlene and Ken belonged to a gourmet club in Queensbury.
Charlene adored her grandchildren and supported all of their endeavors. She spent many hours cheering them on from the sidelines of the soccer and baseball fields. She loved to be in the sunshine. She spent many happy hours with her family enjoying the beach at her grandparents’ house on Brant Lake. It is where she taught all of her grandchildren to swim. She will forever be missed by all of us she left behind.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Kenneth H. Shaw; daughters, Kelley Fletcher (Don) of Clifton Park and Amy Danahy (Scott) of Queensbury; son, Christopher Fitzgerald of Clifton Park; grandchildren, Maeve, Peyton and Quinn Fletcher; grandson, Andy Reilly; step-daughter, Sheila Brumley (Scott) of Glens Falls; sisters, Janet Kish (John) of Ocala, Florida, and Mary Lou Loomis of Queensbury; brother, John MacDonald (Mary) of Branford, Connecticut; a special cousin, Wayne Cioffari of Brant Lake and Mount Vernon; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
