BELLA VISTA, ARK., AND FORT FAIRFIELD –
Robert S. Doughty Jr., 78, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at a Bella Vista, Ark., health care facility after a brief period of declining health. He was born March 10, 1934, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Robert S. Sr. and Gertrude M. (Sprague) Doughty.
He was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, class of 1952, served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Korean War, later served with Maine National Guard and had been self-employed as an insurance agent at R. S. Doughty Associates Ltd., Des Moines, Iowa, for many years. While residing in Fort Fairfield, Robert had been a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and an active member of the Jaycee’s Club.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his previous wife, Gladys Doughty; one brother, Earle Doughty; and two grandchildren, Curtis Doughty and Drew Rattray. He is survived by his wife, Nadine Doughty of Bella Vista, Ark.; three sons, Kent Doughty and wife, Kim, of Veazie, Kerby Doughty of Fort Fairfield and companion, Letitia Worster, and Terry Doughty of Plainville, Conn.; three daughters, Barbara Ireland of Presque Isle, Becky Rattray and husband, Dana, of Fort Fairfield, and Kelli Doughty of Iowa; five stepsons, Michael and David Perkins, Dan, Dave and Bill Shutt, all of Iowa; two brothers, Dale Doughty of Casco, and Don Doughty and wife, Priscilla, of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Linda Ireland of Brunswick; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a celebration of Robert’s life will be conducted 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ronald Doughty officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
