      FORT FAIRFIELDIrene Hazel (Webber) Summerson, 98, wife of the late George Summerson Jr., went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday evening, Dec. 22, 2008, at a Caribou nursing facility, after an extended illness. She was born July 30, 1910, in Chipman, New Brunswick, the daughter of Middleton and Maude Lois (Day) Webber. Irene was a graduate of the Chipman, New Brunswick school system, Class of 1928 and went on to attend Edmundston (New Brunswick) Normal School for teaching. She was married to George Summerson Jr., Oct. 12, 1931, and had been a resident of Fort Fairfield for most of her adult life, first living on the farm on Forest Avenue until moving into town in 1963. Irene was a member of Fort Fairfield Fields Lane Sunshine Club and Fort Fairfield Golden Years Club. Irene will be remembered for her heart full of love and always seeing the best in people. She was a kind, generous loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and great-great-great-grandmother. Being with her family was one of the greatest joys in her life and she always made everyone feel welcome in her home. Irene enjoyed flowers, cooking, cats, birdwatching, and reading poetry and her bible.
       In addition to her parents, Mrs. Summerson was predeceased by her husband, George, April 2, 1991; one infant son; one daughter, Pauline G. Lamson; and two sisters, Aletha L. Boone and Muriel M. Bishop.
       She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian L. Kinney of Paw Paw, Michigan, Ethel I. Reno of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mildred and Arthur Maxim of Palm Coast, Fla., Gladys M. and Emery Donovan of Limestone, and Edith M. and Darryl Doughty Sr. of Fort Fairfield; 12 grandchildren, Philip Barry of Kalamazoo, Mich., David Barry of Vicksburg, Mich., John G. McTague III of Bangor, Blanche Clark of Dedham, Karen A. Van Bosen and Robert A. Ehrnstrom, both of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mark A. Ehrnstrom of Grand Rapids, Mich., Darren A. Donovan of Waterville, Elaine S. Everett of Westfield, Darryl E. Doughty, David D. Doughty, and Dennis G. Doughty, all of Fort Fairfield; 23 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family members.
       Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, with the Rev. Gail Bellamy, pastor of Family Christian Center, Presque Isle, officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the funeral service at Fields Lane Community Center, Fort Fairfield. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
