It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Ronald Hetherington Perry, age 75, husband of Marie (Smith) Perry, of Lower Cambridge, NB, which occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB, on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. He was born on September 21, 1938, in Cody’s, NB, the son of the late Judson Perry and Myrtle (Hetherington) Perry Thorne. Ronnie was the first child to be born of the late Judson & Myrtle Perry. At a very young age Ronnie was shoved into responsibility with his dad passing away on July 31, 1947. He did many odd jobs to help the family in any way he could. His mom remarried to Bliss Thorne. In 1955 Ronnie started employment at Kenneth Robinson’s at the Narrows. In the fall of 1956 he came to Colwell Farms in Lower Cambridge. Here he was manager under the guidance of owner Walter Colwell & then Walter’s son, Carman. The farm closed in 1990. Ronnie then worked as an operator on the Gagetown Ferry. He retired at 65. While living on the Colwell Farm he married Marie Smith on Nov 4, 1967. Their daughter, Dawn, was born in 1971. In 1991 Ronnie & his family moved into their first new home. Ronnie’s step-father, Bliss Thorne, died in 1999. His mom, Myrtle Thorne, passed away in March of 2013. Ronnie loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening of all kinds & feeding the birds in the winter. He always had a Lab that went gill net fishing & duck hunting with him. He could turn his hand to any job & took pleasure in helping others. In his youth he enjoyed playing hockey. For many years he belonged to the Jemseg Crokinole Club. He enjoyed playing electric bass with Strings Alive. He was very much a family man & enjoyed being with all extended members. He was a member of the First Cambridge Baptist Church. Ronald is survived by his wife Marie; daughter Dawn Perry of Lower Cambridge, NB; mother-in-law Ethel Smith; brothers Robert Perry and his wife Almeda of Saint John, NB, Charles Thorne and his wife Irene of Keirstead Mountain, NB; sister Shirley Doucette and her husband Gilbert of Sussex, NB; aunts Flora DeWitt and her husband Charlie, Marjorie Hetherington, Myrtle Dykeman and her husband Russell, Gertrude MacDonald; uncles Garfield Hetherington, George Perry and his wife Mary; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Faye Frits and her husband Stan; step father Bliss Thorne. He is resting at Sherwood’s Funeral Home and Life Tribute Centre, (506-839-2156) 18 Scovil Road, Norton with visiting on Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Service will be held from Sherwood’s Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014. Interment will take place in the spring in the First Cambridge Baptist Cemetery, MacDonald’s Corner, NB. Donations in memory of Ron, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, First Cambridge Baptist Cemetery Fund or to a memorial of the donor’s choice.
