FORT FAIRFIELD –
Doris M. Doughty, 95, passed away Wednesday evening, March 23, 2011 at a Presque Isle health care facility, after an extended illness. She was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Skowhegan, daughter of Hans and Dora (Withee) Hansen.
She was educated in the Skowhegan school system and after moving to Fort Fairfield at age 11, became a student of the Fort Fairfield school system and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. A dedicated homemaker, Doris also had been employed by the former Fort Fairfield Woolworth and worked at the former Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital as a receptionist for many years, until her retirement in the late 1980s. She enjoyed crafts, especially needlepoint, cooking and family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, B. Franklin Doughty; second husband, George R. Nichols, in 1984; one son, Linwood Doughty, in 1992; three grandchildren, Catherine Owens, Duane Gosline Jr. and Stephen Gosline; two brothers, William W. and Earle W. Hansen; two sisters, Elsie Henderson and Verna Doughty; and one son-in-law, Herman L. Cote. She is survived by two sons, Gary Doughty and wife, Signa, and Darrel “Butch” Doughty and wife, Edith, all of Fort Fairfield; four daughters, Janet Owens of Fort Fairfield, Patricia Mahn of Onalaska, Wis., Virginia Cote and Joanne Wilcox, both of Fort Fairfield; 26 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, great-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, March 26, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 27, with Asa Cook officiating. Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the funeral service at Veterans of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
