CASCO –
Diana Gail Jones Doughty, 65, passed away Friday, May 11, 2007, at her home. She had been battling breast cancer for eight years. Diana was a wonderful wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a devoted friend. Diana was raised in Milo, and attended Milo schools. After graduating from Milo High School in 1960, she attended business college in Bangor.
Although she spent most of her married life working side-by-side with her husband, in his various business ventures, Diana found her years as a private duty caregiver to elders, to be particularly fulfilling. Her warmth and compassion earned her the respect and admiration of her patients, their families and the professionals with whom she worked. The patience and skill with which she cared for her patients, several of whom were Alzheimer’s sufferers, was remarkable and she was much in demand by the families of elders in need of private care. When she wasn’t working Diana enjoyed many hobbies that allowed her to combine an artist’s eye with working hands, including ceramics, macramé, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She also was an avid gardener, a passion which, in recent years, she enjoyed sharing with her grand-daughter, Rachel. Diana loved her lakeside home on Parker Pond. She loved to swim and enjoyed twilight boat rides with her husband, Dale.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Dale Doughty Sr. of Casco; her son and daughter-in-law, Dale Jr. and Eileen Doughty; and three grandchildren, Alexis Albert, 17, Tyler Albert, 12, and Rachel Doughty, 5, all of Windham. She also is survived by her birth mother, Mrs. Dorothy Ayer of Yarmouth. Diana was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Mildred Jones of Portland. Diana will be missed, mourned and celebrated by family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Casco Community Church. Anyone wishing to memorialize her life may do so by making a donation to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. 11 Cumberland St., P.O. Box 11626, Bangor, ME 04402.
