      FORT FAIRFIELDWendell H. Doughty, 77, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, April 27, 2005, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 13, 1927, at Fort Fairfield, the son of William H. and Janet (Coes) Doughty. Wendell graduated from the Fort Fairfield High School in 1945 and attended the University of Maine at Orono in the Agriculture Program. Mr. Doughty served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was married to Lorraine R. Donnelly on May 25, 1948, who passed away on Nov. 17, 1984. Wendell was employed by Barnes Brothers Dairy Farms, Fort Fairfield, where he raised prize winning cattle for 16 years. He owned and operated Doughty’s Market, Fort Fairfield, and also worked at A.E. Flewelling and Sons, Crouseville. Wendell also worked for Cianbro and McCain Foods. Mr. Doughty had also been self-employed for many years as a carpenter and sign painter. In his retirement, Wendell became well known for his woodworking craftsmanship. Mr. Doughty will be remembered for his kindness, caring and generosity. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Fort Fairfield, and was a life member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield.
       In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by 12 brothers, Franklin, Rudolph, Clarence, Luther, Frankie, Arthur, Robert, Philip, Harry, Ralph, Charlie and Walter Doughty; four sisters, Madeline Hansen, Mildred Estey, Kathlyne Fields and Glenda Hillyard.
       Mr. Doughty is survived by three daughters, Jane Doughty Pryor and her husband, Wayne, of Presque Isle, Kathy Doughty Walsh and her husband, David, of Blaine, Peggy Doughty Hatch and her husband, David, of Saco; two sons, Daniel F. Doughty and his wife, Ruth (Libby) of South Portland, Paul A. Doughty of West Gray; one brother, Bruce Doughty and his wife, Phyllis, of Manchester, Conn.; two sisters, Helen Clark of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, Canada, Gertrude Smith of Bowdoin; eight grandchildren, Troy A. Johnston of Portland, Adam and Andrew Doughty of South Portland, Mark, Scott and Patrick Walsh of Blaine, Erin and Ryan Hatch of Saco; several nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by three special sisters-in-law, Naomi Downing and her husband, Jack, of Presque Isle, Joyce Banks of South Windsor, Conn., Zeta Lello and her husband, Howard, of Limestone. Wendell will be dearly missed by his special friend, Margaret “Margie” Willette of Fort Fairfield.
       Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today, Friday, April 29, 2005, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a service of remembrance will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the officers and members of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Interment will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, at a later date. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the funeral service. Those who choose may contribute in memory of Mr. Doughty to the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, care of Dawn Piscitello, 11 Byron St., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Envelopes will be available at both the funeral home and church.
