Frank Donald Vincent, who honorably served his country and his community, died July 22, 2017 after a long, rewarding life.
Frank was born in Portland, Oregon, where he learned to work hard and share with others during the lean years of the Great Depression. He was a graduate of Reed College, where he was junior class president, competed on the varsity crew team and later volunteered on the school’s National Advisory Council alumni board. During World War II he was a lieutenant in the Naval Reserve, serving as captain of an air-sea rescue vessel. After hostilities ended, he was the Navy’s officer in charge of the Secret and Confidential Mail Room in the Pentagon. He came to Sacramento after the war and married Marilyn McDuffee, who died in 1998. They had two sons, Stephen and Roger.
Vincent. Frank was a gifted, diligent businessman who found success as the founder of an employee benefits company that became one of Sacramento’s largest. Throughout his life he asked himself each day how he could contribute to others and he was generous with his time. Among the organizations he helped as a volunteer were the Sacramento Children’s Home, Washington Neighborhood Center, Rotary Club of Sacramento and the UC Davis Mini Medical School. He was a loving husband and father who cherished his many friendships, which he nurtured with heartfelt support and wry humor. With his wife, Carla, he enjoyed traveling, entertaining and spirited games of dominos. Frank will be forever missed by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife; his sister, Beatrice Dick and his sons. Services will be private.
