Rhodes Girl Dies After Long Illness RHODES — (Special) — Catherine Jeannette Smith, 38, who had been ill for about nine years, died here at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at her home.
Miss Smith was a daughter of Stephen and Kathryn Smith and was born at Woodburn, May 5, 1908. The family moved to Grimes and later to Battle Lake, Minn., where they lived for five years, coming to Rhodes in 1919. Mr. Smith was in the retail drug business here and he died in 1938.
Miss Smith was graduated from Rhodes high school in 1927 and later from the Thompson Beauty school in Des Moines. She followed her profession for some time at Charles City and Waterloo.
Surviving are her mother of Rhodes, her grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Miller, and a nephew, William Smith, both of Des Moines, and an uncle, James H. Wood, of Gloversville, N. Y. A brother, William Smith, died in December, 1945.
