      William “Bill” Smith, 70, of Grand Junction, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014, at the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines.
       Bill’s wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2014, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Visitation will be Friday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Boone Veteran’s Council. For online obituaries and condolences please visit: www.carsonstappfuneralhome.com
       William Joseph Smith was born on October 12, 1943, in Perry, Iowa, born the son of Alvin Gilbert & Marion (Barth) Smith and raised by Alvin "Gib" and Lois (Keanan) Smith of Perry, IA. He graduated with the Perry High School class of 1963. Following his education, Bill served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam.
       On January 15, 1966, Bill was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Shute in St. Charles, Illinois. To this union five children were born: Allen, Diana, Julie, Billi, & Gib. Bill and Beverly Jean later divorced, but remained best friends.
       Bill was an over the road truck driver for over 30 years> He traveled many of miles in the US and in 1999 he had to come off the road due to health issues, but continued to drive locally until 2006 and then retired.
       Bill belonged to the Boone V.F.W., as well as the Boone Moose Lodge and the Elks Club. He was an avid sports fan and loved to read with Louis L’amour being one of his favorite author. Bill loved life, people and knew no strangers. He loved spending time with his family and watching his grand kids play sports.
       Survivors include his four children, Allen Smith of Grand Junction, Iowa, Diana (Beningo) Smith-Padron of Enid, Oklahoma, Julie Smith (Thomas Diggs) of Enid, Oklahoma, and Billi Smith (Lawrence O’Neal) of Grand Junction, Iowa; his ex-wife, Beverly Jean Smith of Enid, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Sarah (Jon) Neu of Milford, Ohio, Eleanor (John) Roberts of Perry, Iowa, and Dixie (Dennis) Nelson of Gravis Mills, Missouri; and one brother, Rick (Linda) Smith of Gassville, Arkansas, and one sister-in-law Judy Smith of Denver, Co.
       He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William "Gib" Smith, two granddaughters, Cassidy Treft and Starr Kirk, and one brother, George Smith.
       In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family
