    • George graduated from Tri-State College, Angola, Indiana. He started his career electric welding the seams for caissons to be used in the construction of a bridge spanning the Ohio River between Jeffersonville and Louisville, Kentucky. Later he was employed in the drafting department of the American Car and Foundry Co. Payzant history says m. 1935 Napoleon, Ohio.

      George Douglas Nichols, 61, design engineer for Differential Steel Car C!o. for 20 years, died suddenly Saturday night while attending á concert in Detroit. Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Nichols, who lived in Ann Arbor, was chief engineer for the Economy Baler Co., there. He came to Findlay in 1931 from Jeffersonville, Ind., and was affiliated with the Differential Steel Car Co. until 1951. He was married to the former Ernestine Hinton in Findlay, on June 12, 1935. The family home is at 1415 Henry St., Ann Arbor.
       A native of Kentville, Nova Scotia, Mr. Nichols was born April 3, 1908 a son of Arthur L, and Carrie E. (Power) Nichols. He was graduated from State College, Angola, Ind. and for a number of years taught and lectured at Ohio Northern University. He also published a number of articles for technical journals. Mr. Nichols was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Findlay Lodge 237, F..and A.M., Chapter 23, Order of Eastern Star, and the York Rite Masons. He was also a member of the Ann Arbor Engineers’ Club.
       He is survived by his wife, two sons, Stephen M., Ann Arbor, and David A., Cincinnati; brothers Irvine L., Toronto, Ont.; and Robert M., Halifax, Nova Scotia.
       Services will be held at the Funeral Home, 403 S., Fourth Ave., Ann Arbor, at 7 p.m. today with interment Wednesday at Dayton Memorial Cemetery, Dayton. Memorials may be made to Shriners Burns Institute, Cincinnati.
