Wharff, Gretchen L. (Boese) 1923-2003 | RAYMORE, Mo. – Gretchen L. Wharff, 80, of Raymore, Mo., formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., following major open-heart surgery.
The daughter of Frederick and Clara (Kupfer), she was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School and became a bookkeeper for local businesses, including the Maytag Company. On May 26, 1946, she married Donald M. Wharff. They moved to Minneapolis, Minn., and she worked part-time as a bookkeeper and was a homemaker. She was an active member of PEO and was a painter and nature enthusiast who enjoyed bird watching and gardening. She was a vocalist, organist and pianist and was a member of First Christian Church of Minneapolis for 45 years and recently, a member of the Raymore Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband; four nieces and two nephews, four grandnieces, one grandnephew, many great grandnieces; and many friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Boese.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Bromwell Lounge at Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, Mo. Graveside services will be held Monday at New Virginia Cemetery in New Virginia. Memorials will be accepted to Fellowship of John, c/o Foxwood Springs Living Center, 1500 W. Foxwood Drive, Raymore, Mo. 64083. Cullen Funeral Home in Raymore, Mo., is handling arrangements.
