Standing well over 6’ tall, Shaffer was an able player, bringing home trophies to his wife and three children. Robert died Sunday after a life working as an engineer at National Mfg. He was 83. “Golf was his father’s passion, Peter Shaffer said.” He was always on the Lincoln Highway Tornament team. He won several championships at the Country Club. Robert Shaffer stood out from the crowd for a number of reasons – He was 6’2". He had light hair. His hair was so light that in high school they used to call him “Whitey” son Jonathan said. He also gave his time to the community, as a member of the Jaycees and the Rock Falls Elks Club. “He was president of the Jaycees for two terms” in about 1955, Peter Shaffer said.
