JANES, RONALD B. – The funeral of Ronald B. Janes, of Saint John, husband of the late Marjorie (Black) Janes, was held on Monday, March 23rd, 2009, from the chapel of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, where the service was officiated by Rev. John Martin. The organist was Barry Snodgrass and the violinist was Evan Jenner. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Barb Jenner and Kathy Urquhart. The eulogy was read by Brenda Forret. In attendance in the congregation were Rev. Greg McMullin and members of the St. Mary’s Band. The active pallbearers were: Sons-in-law, Rennie Whitenect, Gary Gallant and Dannie Forret; grandsons, Christopher Gallant, Nicholas Forret and Gregory Forret. The honorary pallbearers were: Stanley Janes, Clarence Janes, Carson Janes, Gerry Gateman, and Bruce Holder Jr. Among the numerous floral and spiritual tributes received by the family were those from: Friends of St. Mary’s Band, Staff of Sunny Corner Enterprises, Night Shift Staff of Black and McDonald, City of Saint John Management and Staff of Materials and Fleet Management, and Staff of Clark Administrative Consultants. Donations made in memory of Ronald were given to: Quispamsis United Church Memorial Fund; Salvation Army Saint John; Canadian Cancer Society- Saint John including one from Saint John Police, Commissioners, Chief, Officers and Staff of the Saint John Police Force, and Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing Comfort Fund including one from Your Friends at Service Canada; Romero House (NB); St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Church including one from Rector and Congregation of St. Mary and St. Bartholomew’s Church; Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children (Luxor Temple) (NB); Lung Association (NB); Hillcrest United Baptist Church; Hospice Greater Saint John; Canadian Diabetes Association (NB); Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB; St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation; Animal Rescue League; Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick; ALS Society of New Brunswick; Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada (NB Chapter); and Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation. Interment took place in Fernhill Cemetery. Last Post played by Philip Garrett. Appreciation to the Staff of Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing for the excellent care and compassion provided to Dad and our family over the past four years. Special thanks to Rev. John Martin, Sherri Gallant and Ethel Smith for going above and beyond.

JANES, RONALD B. — Ronald B. Janes of Saint John, husband of the late Marjorie (Black) Janes, passed away peacefully at the Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre on Wednesday, March 18th, 2009. Born at Saint John on August 22nd, 1923, he was a son of the late George and Evelyn (Pilgrim) Janes. Ron worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia for more than thirty years. A Veteran of World War II, he served overseas in the army. He was a long time member of St. Mary’s Band, and the Royal Canadian Artillery 3rd Field Regiment The Loyal Company. Ron is survived by three daughters, Helen Whitenect (Rennie) of Quispamsis, Sandra Gallant (Gary) of Gorham’s Bluff, and Brenda Forret (Dannie) of Quispamsis; four grandchildren, Jaime, Christopher, Nicholas, and Gregory; five great grandchildren, Michaela, Emma, Bailey, Jayden, and Myah; three brothers, Stanley of Saint John, Clarence (June) of Toronto, and Carson (Ida) also of Toronto; sisters-in-law Eleanor Janes, Barbara Janes, and Margaret Durst; several nieces and nephews, and Yvonne. In addition to his wife, Ron was predeceased by brothers Dick, Harold, and George; and by sisters Isabel, Winnifred, Ethel, Audrey, Susan, Florence, and Doris. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Saturday from 7 to 9 PM and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Ridgewood Veteran’s Centre or any charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held on Sunday at 7 PM from the funeral home. www.brenansfh.com.
