Madge McCreary Page, a former resident of Danville, died Aug. 11 at the age of 87. She was born May 27, 1922, in Memphis, Tenn., to Dr. and Mrs. Albert McCreary and was baptized into the Episcopal Church. She spent her childhood in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida, where she attended Florida State University at Tallahassee. She married Addison Carey Page Jr. in 1942, and while he was a U.S. Navy pilot during World War II, they were stationed in Pensacola, New Orleans and finally Alameda. They moved to Danville in 1950 and raised two daughters. She enjoyed teaching cooking and sharing her expert sewing skills with the Girl Scouts, as well as other local charities. During the ’60s and ’70s they lived 12 years overseas in Australia, Africa, Kuwait, Italy and England, traveling and enjoying the art, architecture and cuisines of other countries. In 2002 she sold her house in Danville and moved to Marin County to be near her family. She is survived by her two daughters; Harriett Page Redwine of Mill Valley and Anne Page Nelson of Danville; three grandsons; sister Cornelia Waters of Lakeland, Fla.; and brother Dr. Albert McCreary of Johnson City, Tenn; and many nieces and nephews. A small committal service will be held later for family and friends at the Columbarium at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Danville. Donations in her honor may be made to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Madge McCreary Page August 11, 2009. Madge Page was born on May 27, 1922 in Memphis, Tennessee to Dr. and Mrs. Albert McCreary and was baptized into the Episcopal Church. She spent her childhood in Tennessee, North Carolina and Florida where she attended Florida State University at Tallahassee. Madge married Addison Carey Page, Jr. (now deceased) in 1942. While Addison was a US Navy pilot during WW II, they were stationed at Pensacola, New Orleans and finally Alameda. They owned a home in Danville continuously from 1950 until 2002 and raised two daughters there: Harriett Page Redwine of Mill Valley and Anne Page Nelson of Danville. Madge enjoyed teaching cooking and sharing her expert sewing skills with the Girl Scouts. She also worked with other local charities. Madge was a devoted wife and mother and living with her family in Danville brought her much happiness and goodwill in the community. During the 60’s and 70’s Madge and Addison lived twelve years overseas in several locations, including Australia, Africa, Kuwait, Italy and England. Friends and family visited often. During this time, Madge and Addison also traveled and enjoyed the art, architecture and cuisine of many countries. Madge became an accomplished cook in several foreign cuisine. In later years she sold her house in Danville and moved to Marin County to be near her family. Her two daughters and three grandsons survive her: Kent and Christopher Redwine and Andrew Nelson. Cornelia Waters of Lakeland, Florida; Dr. Albert McCreary of Johnson City, Tennessee who are Madge’s surviving sister and brother. She leaves many nieces and nephews. A small committal service will be held later for Madge’s family and friends at the Columbarium at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Danville.
