CHURCH, Major David Seymour -– Royal Canadian Army Pay Corps (ret.), died June 10, 2004, four days shy of his 87th birthday, in Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto. Born in Saint John, N.B., a son of Elbert Edgar and Vivien Dawson Church, he worked for the Royal Bank in New Brunswick before joining the army, serving in Canada, including twice in Halifax, and overseas during and after the Second World War. After retirement, he became secretary of the Ontario Highway Transport Board. He is survived by his wife, Marion (Peggy) Jenkins; children, Michael (Dana), Wendy (Stephen) Cole; grandchildren, Kathleen and Eric Church, Luke and Noah Cole, all of Toronto; sister, Barbara (William) March, Halifax; brother, Joseph, Sudbury. He was predeceased by brothers, John and Hugh (Saint John). Sunny and cheerful, he enjoyed music, golf and curling. Funeral was held Monday, June 14, in Mount Pleasant Cemetery Chapel, Mausoleum and Crematorium, Toronto, where he will be buried. Donations may be made to The Salvation Army or Taylor Place Day Program.
