VALUE OF ESTATE $39,967
Montana Man Gets Little of Property Which Goes to Second Wife and Children
Clarence Edgerton of Shelby, Mont., receives only $1 from the $39,967 estate of his father, the late John Edgerton of Minoa., according to the reportt filed yesterday with Surrogate Edgar P. Glass by Transfer Tax Appraiser John Shea.
Edgerton’s stepmother, Mrs. Jane Edgerton, is given $17,667 and his two half-sisters, Miss Jennie M. Edgerton and Mrs. Grace K. McKinley, both of Minoa, have $10,067 each.
John Edgerton’s only son was by a former marriage. He left home many years ago and went West. That there was an estrangement is known, but what caused it has never been revealed. That the facther cut him off with only one dollar shows that time did not lessen the breach. Edgerton, a retired farmer, was about 80 years old when he died.
Appraiser Shea’s report gives the value of the realty as $7,000 and that of the personal property as $32,967. Debts and expenses of administration amounted to $7,764, leaving $37,208 to be divided among the heirs. Edgerton’s widow is given the realty and the personal property is divided equally between herself and her two daughters, less the $1 for the son.
Edgerton has $2,022 on deposit in the Onondaga County Savings bank, $492 in the Syracuse Trust Company and $964 with the Trust & Deposit Company of Onondaga. The greater part of the personal property consisted of bonds and mortgages.
Edgerton’s widow is executrix of the estate and Lewis P. Smith is the attorney.
