  [S4] Obituary. Richard Lee (Dick) Brustkern passed away on Sept. 18, 2015, in Bozeman, Montana. His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at 4 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Bozeman.  Dick was born on Oct. 25, 1931, to John Leslie (Mose) and Geneva Effie (Mickie) Brustkern in South Dakota. Dick graduated from North High in Omaha, Nebraska. He enlisted in the Navy and served as an airplane mechanic in the Korean War. He earned a BS and MS in Engineering from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. He went on to earn his PhD from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, and taught Civil Engineering at Montana State University for over three decades.  On Nov. 2, 1951, Dick married Jane Morse in Omaha, Nebraska. They barely spent a night apart in their nearly 64 years of marriage. Their love was like a story book. They were blessed with a loving family; Ben (deceased, May 21, 2010), Joe (children, Mandi, Nycole and Ellie), Pete (wife, Kari, and children, Kaycee, Colter and Mattie) and Emily (children, Cale, Carter and Cy).  Dick excelled in all he did, especially as a husband and father. He enjoyed spending time camping, fishing and hiking with his family. He loved to work with wood making intricate puzzles, ornaments, treasure boxes and detailed carvings. He would walk to work each day and all over Bozeman in the evenings to steal lilacs for Jane. He rode his hand-me-down bike from Pete for years and hiked the "M" with "Em" many times. He enjoyed attending all the Bobcat basketball and football games with Joe and then joined him by phone to watch the NFL games. He and Ben excelled at crossword puzzles and could have been "pros". He also cherished his grandkids and took them fishing, hiking and played endless games of whiffle ball with them as their constant pitcher.  Dick was honored by many, but lived his life humbly and never accepted credit. He was the rock we all leaned on for support and now we have another guardian angel watching over us. He is not leaving us. He is only going ahead to find our next home. Until then, he will be greatly missed.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dick’s name to the Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center at 915 Highland Blvd., Bozeman, MT 59715.
