JOSEPH LEAHY — Once served in Legislature
Joseph F. Leahy, 70, former state representative and Somerville School Committee member, died Tuesday in St. John of God Hospital, Brookline, after a long illness. He was a former resident of 44 Fellsway West, Somerville. Mr. Leahy, a native of Boston, served on the Somerville School Committee from 1948 to 1951 and in the Legislature from 1949 to 1952. He retired as an officer of Somerville District Court in 1965 after 12 years there. Mr. Leahy was a past president of the Massachusetts Legislators’ Assn., a member of the Somerville Lodge of Elks and Bishop Cheverus Assembly, fourth degree Knights of Columbus.
He leaves his wife, Blanche C. (Coes) of Arlington; a son, Robert A of Setauket, N.Y.; four sisters, Loretta Leahy of Framingham, Margaret Buscher of Washington, D.C., Katherine Bishop of Quincy, and Rita Lally of Dorchester, and two brothers, John Leahy of Hull and Edward of Weymouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 Saturday in St. Polycarp’s Church, Somerville. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Medford.
