Marvin Paul Cunningham, 74, of Perry died Sept. 19, 1996 at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.
Mr. Cunningham was born May 22, 1922 in Boone County near Ogden. He attended schools at Berkley, Grand Junction and Dana. He farmed in the Redfield area before entering the U.S. Army and serving with the Army Tank Corp. He returned to Redfield and farmed another year before his marriage to Mary Ellen Messamer On Nov. 22, 1945 at the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren parsonage.
They lived on a farm near Adel for three years before moving to a farm near Perry in 1949. Mr. Cunningham had been employed as a maintenance worker for the Perry Schools and for Des Moines Area Community College’s Boone Campus before retiring in 1984 and moving into Perry.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Elmer and Harry and one sister, Ruby Erickson. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Perry; two sons, Dan of Polk City and Ken of Perry; two daughters, Regina "Jeannie" Richardson of Des Moines and Gail "Pat" Benki of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Vi Gorman of Des Moines; seven grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
